An introduction to the Meisner technique and a focus on the first two exercises: The repetition exercise and independent activities. Actors will learn to become spontaneous responders and to live truthfully from moment to unanticipated moment with their partners.
A strict focus will be placed on getting the attention off yourself and onto your partner. The course will end with partnered short scene work with these first two principles applied. No pre-requisite Meisner work is needed to take this course.
This course is about specificity. We will develop the actors' ability to analyze the script and provide an approach to making honest, convincing and compelling choices. Workiing with a scene partner, actors will be cast in TV and film scenes, and will be taken through the process of bringing them from the page to the screen.
The emphasis in the first part of the course is on script work, while the latter part is purely "athletic" (moment to moment) in its approach. It is advised that students working with David take Acting for Camera: Foundation, prior to taking this course. Students will receive a DVD copy of their work upon completion of the course.
Acting: Foundation With David Matheson
**New Session coming Summer 2010**
Cost: $200.00
Maximum: 10 Students
The fundamental requirement of film and television actors is to have an active "inner life" on screen. This intense six-week course is designed to awaken that inner life and give the actor the ability to utilize it effectively. We work with a monlogue that has been given to the actor in advance. Every session, all actors will participate in the process of briging their pieces to life. Filming the pieces will take place in the final weeks of the course. Along the way we will also cover adjusting to frame sizes, hitting your mark, and the physical adjustments necessary to allow the camera to capture the thoughts of the actor. This course is perfect for people new to acting or for experienced actors new to camera work.
