The New School Of Drama

The New School of Drama is dedicated to the belief that acting is a challenging and worthy profession.

Acting that moves audiences to excitement and admiration is not achieved without effort. Really good acting is performed by a finely-tuned instrument, the actor's body and imaginatioin, striving together to produce moment by moment spontineity out of given circumstances. It is full of risk and danger. Fiction becomes real. Emotions just as true as those of life but more fully expressed fly between richly coloured characters in pursuit of their desires. When the actor performs honestly and deeply we see more clearly into the life of the human spirit.

The New School of Drama offers a diploma course in acting, designed to take the actor confidently from aspiring beginner to auditioning professional. Because we're dedicated to a high standard of quality, students are interviewed to ensure that serious actors work with actors of equal commitment.

Over 25 years of training excellence.

Power of Balance

Tai Chi & Meditation Center

The Tai Chi and Meditation Centre offers instruction in the transformative mind-body disciplines of the Buddhist-Daoist tradition. Historically, these skills have been successfully applied in the martial arts, health maintenance, healing, and spiritual (enlightenment) transformation. Specific disciplines include Insight Meditation (Vipassana), Taijiquan, Qigong and the “internal” martial arts of Baguazhang and Xingyiquan.

We feel that these time-tested skills are more than ever needed to help us cope with increasing complexity, rapid change, stress and the loss of a sense of intrinsic value and interconnectedness in life. These skills are not just something else way down on your to-do list, but constitute the underlying master template, which can integrate, simplify, and make coherent sense of all activities. We need evolved consciousness to wisely operate evolved systems and technologies.

We offer on-going classes, medical qigong therapy as well as customized on-site workshops for outside organizations. Our clients include the Government of Ontario, University of Toronto, Ryerson University, IBM, Xerox, Bell, American Express, The United Church, Sears, Nortel, the Canadian Film Centre and Outward Bound Canada.

Instructors:
Andy James, Donna Oliver, Suzanne Taka, Colin Outram, Jeff Willis, Sheila Furness
