Bad Dog Theatre Youth Program

Youth Improv Series

The Bad Dog Theatre Youth Program is excited to be entering it's fourth season! In the tradition of great workshops for all levels of improvisers, the Bad Dog is continuing to extend its top-notch classes to youths aged 15 through 17.

Participants in the Youth Improv Series will learn the fundamentals of storytelling, create their own characters on stage and gain the confidence to show off their new found skills. There will be a showcase at the end of each eleven week session where participants will perform in a final show.

The bad Dog youth teachers have years of improv experience both as performers and instructors, and through their workshops they have seen students become more confident, more socially intuitive and better all-round performers.

The Meisner Technique with Jason Fraser

The Meisner Technique, developed by Sanford Meisner, draws its origins from Constantin Stanislavski's Method of Acting. Meisner developed a series of exercises that demand the actor to acheive the aim of "Living truthfully under imaginary circumstances" which is Meisner's definition of acting.

The exercises force the actor's attention off of himself and onto his partner. By taking the attention off himself, the actor has the freedom to behave spontaneously through his impulses, which leads to a more truthful and honest performance.

We offer scheduled segments of the Technique, designed to take the actor confidently from aspiring beginner to auditioning professional. Because we're dedicated to a high standard of quality, students are interviewed to ensure that serious actors work with actors of equal commitment.

Over 5 years of training excellence.

Stephani Sheri

Tai Chi & Meditation Center

The Tai Chi and Meditation Centre offers instruction in the transformative mind-body disciplines of the Buddhist-Daoist tradition. Historically, these skills have been successfully applied in the martial arts, health maintenance, healing, and spiritual (enlightenment) transformation. Specific disciplines include Insight Meditation (Vipassana), Taijiquan, Qigong and the “internal” martial arts of Baguazhang and Xingyiquan.

We feel that these time-tested skills are more than ever needed to help us cope with increasing complexity, rapid change, stress and the loss of a sense of intrinsic value and interconnectedness in life. These skills are not just something else way down on your to-do list, but constitute the underlying master template, which can integrate, simplify, and make coherent sense of all activities. We need evolved consciousness to wisely operate evolved systems and technologies.

We offer on-going classes, medical qigong therapy as well as customized on-site workshops for outside organizations. Our clients include the Government of Ontario, University of Toronto, Ryerson University, IBM, Xerox, Bell, American Express, The United Church, Sears, Nortel, the Canadian Film Centre and Outward Bound Canada.

Instructors:
Andy James, Donna Oliver, Suzanne Taka, Colin Outram, Jeff Willis, Sheila Furness

Power of Balance

Acting Coach Carlos Diaz

The Carlos Approach:

To make it personal. To help actors bring themselves to the character and situation. Ask a lot of questions about the role and the characters around you. Preparing the actor for the imaginary situation and the very real audition. Teaching the actor to think for themselves so that eventually, they won't need me anymore.

Coaching:

Private audition coaching. First auditions or callbacks. A good coaching session can make the difference between just another callback and a booking.
